European Bioeconomy Strategy
Communication of 27 November 2025 from the European Commission regarding the development of a bioeconomy. Bio-based and biodegradable plastics are considered to be of great importance.
European Regulation on Packaging and Packaging Waste (PPWR: EU 2025/40)
Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council of 19 December 2024 on packaging and packaging waste. Articles 8, 9, and 53 are particularly relevant for bio-based and biodegradable packaging.
Belgian Royal Decree establishing product standards for compostable and biodegradable materials
Royal Decree of 9 September 2008 regulating the use of the terms "biodegradable" and "compostable." "Biodegradable" may not be used; "compostable" only if it can be objectively demonstrated that the product complies with EN13432.
